Love Bites

Love is in the air… or more accurately, on my facebook wall.

As the wedding season ensues and so many of my friends and relatives tie the knot, I thought it appropriate to share my thoughts about love with my readers. Over the years many authors and brilliant minds have shared their ideas on love and relationships. Love has inspired such beautiful poetry and prose. I would agree that it is by far the most complex convoluted emotion of them all. There certainly are many kinds of love but for the purpose of this blog post, I will address the kind of love that fruits into a relationship.

The closest example I have is my parents. They met when they were very young and fell in love. The duo survived against odds of many kinds; familial, religious, economic, etc. I often wonder what it must have been like for them then. A Hindu and a Muslim with different upbringings, living very different lives. If they didn’t meet in acting school, they may have never met. Fate may have brought them together but it certainly isn’t what kept them together. Over the years after they met I can say with pride and admiration that my parents built from the ground up. They toiled tirelessly to build a strong framework together. The framework that is our home. The takeaway here, and what kept my parents together was an aligned desire to overcome adversity.

Life throws punches and kicks when we are least expecting it. It can be harsh and cruel but being with someone you love reminds you that it will get better. It gives you a reason why it should.
